How to Dress Feminine in the Winter: Girly Outfits for Cold Weather

So, it’s December now and everyone is woefully hanging up their beloved sundresses, skirts, and shorts.

Me included 😞

Usually I get really bummed about having to lay down some of my favorite pieces for a season, but this year I'm actually…excited for a change!
I have to admit though, I owe it all to a few seasonal aesthetics that I’ve grown an affinity for which allow me to have fun with dressing up, even when it’s -1000 degrees out!

If you’re also disappointed about retiring some of your favorite warm weather clothing and you also love dressing in a way that expresses your inner femininity, I’ve got some awesome winter fashion ideas and tips for different girly aesthetics that I KNOW you're gonna love as much as I do!

1. Classic Aesthetic

❄️ Classic aesthetics are especially pretty this time of year because you can get away with being extremely extra (which I love, probably too much! The people in my town are probably so sick of seeing me lol!). There are all these superfluous pieces you can add onto your outfit, but because they're are also functional to keeping you protected from the climate, it also just makes sense to have them on.

❄️ These outfits are perfect if you're more inclined towards an opulent or mature kind of look. It's one part elegance to one part feminine flair, which is the perfect recipe for a good old money or Parisian outfit. They're best served with one eye-catching, generally cohesive, and coordinated base outfit and paired with:

  • simple staple jewelry pieces (such as thin and simple bracelets, statement watches, pearl earrings and/or necklaces)
  • a small handbag, such as a clutch
  • flesh-colored, fleece-lined tights
  • either a chunky heel boot or skinny heel
  • cossack hats
  • wrist cuffs
  • faux fur coats

2. Snow / Ice Princess

------------------------------

୨୧--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------୨୧

❄️ For obvious reasons, the snow princess aesthetic was absolutely made for Winter, it is probably my favorite out of this whole list! This style is safe for any cooler region, but visually works really well on snowy days in particular! I really love how the monochromatic element built into creating this kind of look allows you to sort of “blend in” with the snowy environment. It makes you look like you are part of the snowy climate, like this is your domain, which is why it plays so well into the whole princess aspect. Well, that and the dainty, whimsical, almost fairytale nature of the outfit, of course (am I the only one picturing Elsa? She’s a great example, haha!).

❄️ As I stated before, this style is a fairly monochrome composite of various white clothing items. When it comes to putting these outfits together, I’ve learned that layering is going to be your best friend! Not only does it shield you from freezing temperatures, but layering also gives the benefit of transforming a few simple garments into a whole new look (like when people were asking me on tik tok where I got that “dress” from when it was actually a 3 layer outfit! It’s crazy, the power of layering I tell ya!). However, layering isn’t the end all be all when you’re building these kind of outfits, you can still create this look with a single or two-piece base. Here are some key items you may want to include:
  • leg warmers
  • fleece-lined tights or leggings
  • camisoles or long sleeved t-shirts for layering
  • skirts or shorts
  • long or mid-length dresses
  • cossack hats
  • faux fur / fleece jackets (with or without hood)
  • ear muffs
  • mittens
  • snow boots with fur and/or buckles (you know, the boots with fuuuur!…sorry, I couldn’t hold that one in, lol!)

 3. Y2K / 2000s

-------------------------

୨୧--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------୨୧

❄️ Talk about trends making a comeback, wow! There’s no surprise that there’s been a revival of some of the centuries earliest and most iconic styles, and the winter offset of 2000s fashion has definitely been one that’s caught my eye. I think I like it so much because it’s a very accessible look. Its mostly consisted of casual wear that is strategically complimented with a touch or two of luxurious looking items. It’s that “not trying too hard, effortlessly glam” look that results in a product of feigned affluence.

❄️ Even though Y2K is predominantly best suited for warmer seasons, Winter is a great time for this style, because some of it’s main go-to pieces are a bit thicker full-bodied, like the infamous tracksuits or the puffer jacket and jeans combo!  lets take a look at some of the pieces that help achieve this look:
  • tracksuits
  • jeans (low rise jeans tribute specifically to this era, but I know they’re hit or miss for some!)
  • mini skirts (for those brave souls that can take a little cold to serve a good fit!)
  • glasses (wrap sound, flat top, jeweled, oversized)
  • shoulder / hand bags (designer dupes work really well)
  • Uggs
  • snowboots (and other long boots)
  • sneakers
  • earring (hoops, studs, or designer dupes)
  • centerpiece necklace (designer dupes, name/phrase, or designer dupes)
  • graphic tees
  • layered tanks / camis
  • earmuffs
  • puffer jackets (cropped and cinched / full size, with a hood or faux fur)
  • fur coats

4. Simple / Everyday

------------------------------

୨୧--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------୨୧

❄️ It’s pretty plain to see here that this style is the most achievable look out of the bunch. It’s super easy, breezy, effortless and perfect for those days that you want to look cute, but not too flashy. All it takes is your everyday girly clothing pieces with an item of two of winter accessories!

❄️ Nice staples to have for this look are:
  • fleece-lined leggings / tights
  • leg warmers
  • knee high boots, sneakers, or a chunky heel
  • fur, fleece, or puffer jacket
  • Skirts / dresses (plaid and tartan patterns are really in during the winter months!)
  • fitted jeans
  • over-sized sweaters
  • mittens / gloves
  • scarves
  • winter hats

4. Chic Glam

------------------------------

୨୧--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------୨୧

❄️ Much like the classic one, this chic glam aesthetic oozes with luxury and sophistication. The biggest element that sets the two apart is the modern to classic spectrum which the two rests upon each opposite ends of. Also in the same vein as the classic style, you can get away with being super extra in the same way! Wanna wear that  large fur coat you love and pair it with your favorite Chanel bag? ‘Tis the season! However it is you decide to do this style, wear it loud and wear it proud (which should come fairly easily because outfits like these are QUITE the confidence boost. I mean, imagine walking into a room dressed like that beautiful woman pictured above! You’ll be snapping necks with all the heads that break to catch a glimpse of you!).

❄️ With this look, I’ve noticed that most of the looks have a tucked in top and skirt combo with a long statement coat, boots or heels, and a small to medium bag. A compiled list of multiple characteristics to this aesthetic include:
  • long-sleeve tops
  • skirts (faux wrap, skater, tartan, plaid, or solid colors are popular)
  • designer bags (or dupes)
  • long coats (lapel collar, faux fur, trench)
  • mittens / gloves
  • scarves
  • jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings)
  • (a waist accessory is a plus!)
